Aussie No.1’s take out West Coast Classic

Australian No.1 Anthony Fleet defeated fellow Australian Darts Team Representative Kyle Anderson in the final of the 2nd West Coast Classic played at the Lesmurdie Club in Perth. It was anticipated to be a very close hard fought match and it was between the two top seeds. “Fleety” who took the first initiative with some clinical pegging of 122 to take a set against the darts and eventually proved to be the telling point taking the match 5 – 2 averaging 28.95 to Kyle’s 27.89 in all there was not too much between these two great players.

Anthony Fleet and number 1 seed played very solidly all day and put it all together when required defeating Rob Modra in the semi final 4 sets to nil and averaging 29.03 to Rob’s 24.04 Rob just couldn’t buy a triple and the doubles just seemed to desert him at this stage. The other semi saw Kyle Anderson defeat Lindsay Haji Ali in the other semi 4 sets to nil.

In the women’s, the stage was set for great ladies final between the number 1 and 3 seed in Melbourne’s Carol Forwood and Sydney’s Corinne Hammond. Some tentative darts were thrown at first before Corinne Hammond found her range quickly defeating Carol 4 sets to nil. Corrine Hammond averaged 22.63 to Carol Forwood 20.52. The first semis were matched up as follows: Carol Forwood defeating Tasmanian Helen Johnston winning 3 sets to 1 while Corinne Hammond had victory over another Sydneysider in Lavinia Hogg with the same score line 3 sets to 1

The men’s doubles saw some fantastic darts thrown over the day. Laurie Loch and Andrew Townes from South Australia had played great together and finished the day winning the final 4 -2 over Perth’s David Platt and Jamie Bruce.

Local Perth players Kim Kelly and Stephanie Moriarty put together a strong performance to comfortably making the final. There they met the very experienced international combination of Dot McLeod and Louise Ball who proved to be too strong

World champions lead Manx challenge

Respective world champions Martin Adams and Trina Gulliver put their reputations on the line when they line-up in the Isle of Man International Darts Festival next month.

The three-day £22,500 rankings tournament, which is staged at the eye-catching sea-front multi million pound Villa Marina complex in Douglas, has a habit of throwing up shocks in a competition, where reputations count for nothing.

Because of the lure of the rankings points and the attractive travel and hotel packages on offer, the event – now in its 26th year – is held in high esteem and regularly attracts around 1000 travellers.

But this is exactly why three times world champion Martin Adams is keen to add the Manx trophy to his bulging silverware cupboard. The top prize of £5000 would add to the £250,000 he has amassed in prize-money over the past 18 months during his purple patch on the oche. He has reached the penultimate stage of the island championship and will be looking to go one better this year. Read more

Dutch Open Mens Singles Final is a repeat of Lakeside World Pro Final

On Saturday we saw a few surprises at the Men Singles with 1,898 darts players participating.  Stefan Gerritsen beat Garry Thompson 3-0, and the Englishman wasn’t the only casualty to Dutch players.   Darryl Fitton was beaten 3-1 by Wilbert Koerten and Willem van der Putten had a 3-0 victory over Jan Dekker, the 2011 Lakeside semi-finalist.

The final of the Dutch Open on Sunday was a copy of the Lakeside World Pro, Martin Adams versus Dean Winstanley. Martin Adams continued his winning ways in 2011 with a victory over Dean with 3-2 in sets. Martin Adams won his second Dutch Open title. ‘Wolfie’ won also the Men Pairs tournament with Ross Mongomery. They were too strong for John Walton and Martin Atkins and enjoyed a 2-0 victory.

Trina Gulliver also continued her winning start to 2011 by being crowned Dutch Open Women’s Singles Champion after a 5-2 legs victory over Julie Gore. It completed a family double for the Gulliver’s, because Trina’s partner Sue Gulliver and Zoe Jones won the Women’s Pairs title with a 5-3 victory over Dee Bateman and Irina Armstrong.

Together with all the winners mentioned above the youth also played their finals on the new stage. Lars Fransen, Kaylee de Priester en Mike Zuydwijk are the Dutch Open Youth champions for 2011.

The Dutch Darts Association would like to thank all players and spectators for a great dartsweekend in Veldhoven!

Anastasia returns to the BDO and WDF

Anastasia in action (Henk Westerdaal)

Russian darts star Anastasia Dobromyslova is returning to the BDO and WDF after two years of competing in the PDC.

“Anastasia made the approach to us following her resignation from the PDPA and has made it clear that she now wants to return to the BDO and WDF and play in our future events”, says BDO Chairman, Dave Alderman.

In a personal letter to the BDO she said: “I am writing to you in regards to my wish to compete in the British Darts Organisation and the World Darts Federation.

“I think it is fair to say that in the past I haven’t always received advice that was in my best interests. However, it is now my intention to fully commit to the BDO and WDF in their events and competitions”.

Crowned Lakeside Women’s World Professional Darts Champion in 2008, Anastasia is a playing member of the Russian Darts Federation, and her return to BDO and WDF darts commences at the 2011 Dutch Open.
