Martin Adams is the top seed for Winmau World Masters
Hull Arena: September 1st to 4th
MARTIN ADAMS will start his 2011 Winmau World Masters campaign to win a record four Men’s Masters titles in consecutive years as the No.1 Seed at Hull Arena.
He’s in the form of his life as three times and reigning Men’s World Masters Champion and three times and reigning Lakeside World Professional Darts Champion and is delighted that ESPN will be screening all the action live and exclusively from Friday, September 2nd to Sunday, September 4th.
“ESPN are as excited and enthusiastic about the World Masters as all the players”, says Martin. “This is their very first foray into darts and they have chosen one of the BDO’s biggest and most prestigious tournaments in the World Masters.
“This is a first for them, and it is also a first for Hull Arena as the host venue for the Masters. We are all looking forward to a great tournament in Hull and personally I would love to make it four World Masters on the trot – but there is very strong competition not only from the British players but also a global field representing some 30 countries.
“Whatever the case, the British Darts Organisation and World Darts Federation can guarantee everyone in and around Hull, plus ESPN viewers, an exciting and truly competitive World Masters – and all the players want to see Hull Arena packed to capacity!”
The Seeded players are:
| MEN: 1 MARTIN ADAMS 2 DEAN WINSTANLEY 3 ROBBIE GREEN 4 SCOTT WAITES 5 GARY ROBSON 6 ROSS MONTGOMERY 7 TONY WEST 8 JOHN WALTON |
WOMEN: 1 DETA HEDMAN 2 JULIE GORE 3 TRINA GULLIVER 4 IRINA ARMSTRONG 5 KAREN LAWMAN 6 ANASTASIA DOBROMYSLOVA 7 LORRAINE FARLAM 8 KARIN KRAPPEN |
Yorkshire is well represented in the Men’s Seeds, with Dean Winstanley (Doncaster), Scott Waites (Halifax) and John Boy Walton (Sheffield). Dean was a Quarter Finalist last year and so was Scott, who was runner-up in 2008.
John has the best Masters record, having won the title in 2000 and reaching two Semi-Finals and two Quarter Finals. His greatest moment came in 2007 when he became the first (and only) player to record a perfect 9-dart 501 leg in World Masters history.
Doncaster’s Karen Lawman is flying the Yorkshire flag for the ladies and has a unique World Masters story:
She won the Women’s Masters title in 1998 as Karen Smith and subsequently changed to her maiden name of Lawman to honour a promise made to her late father. As Karen Smith she was a Semi-Finalist in 1999, runner-up in 2002 and Semi-Finalist again in 2004. As Karen Lawman she was a Quarter-Finalist in 2005, runner-up in 2007 and Quarter-Finalist again last year.
The 2011 Winmau World Masters, in association with EY Events and John Smith’s, has a prize fund of £66,500 and will be played at Hull Arena from Thursday, September 1st to Sunday, September 4th, with live and exclusive ESPN coverage from Friday to Sunday.

Last World Cup for the Dutch Crown!
Francis Hoenselaar announced that the next World Cup in Ireland will be her last event for the Dutch team. The ‘Dutch Crown’ made her debut in the Dutch team exactly twenty years ago during the World Cup 1991 in the Netherlands, where she managed to achieve the third place in the singles tournament.
Hoenselaar became a constant factor for the Dutchies. She won no less than five European Championships (single, 1996, 2004 and 2010,
couples with Karin Krappen in 2000 and 2002) and was also successful during several World Cups (couples with Valery Matum 1993 and in 2001 single, overall and couples with Mieke de Boer). Also in the individual tournaments the most important prices are not missing in her trophy case. She won three times the Winmau World Master (1999, 2006 and 2008), the World Darts Trophy 2004 and last but not least the prestigious Lakeside World Professional in 2009.
After the World Cup in Ireland, Hoenselaar will not play again for the Dutch selection, but she will remain active in the dartssport. The Dutch Darts Association wants to thank Francis for her dedication to the Dutch team. In last twenty years she has been a great value for the team and also ladies darts in general. We hope that Francis can expand her roll of honour during the World Cup in Ireland.
