Simon Whitlock put in a powerful display of darts to out point
Anthony Fleet in the final of the Pacific Masters in Geelong
today. Whitlock won his third Masters title 6 – 2. It was an
interesting final with Fleet winning the first leg in 15-darts
against the throw. This must of stirred Whitlock up a little as
he broke back immediately to win leg two in 14 darts. He then
proceeded to reel of the next four legs in 19, 12, 14, and 15
darts to lead 5 – 1. Leg four saw him hit back-to-back 180’s in
taking the leg. The seventh leg saw him hit another 180 but that
was not enough as Fleet pegged the lead back to 5 – 2 with a
13-dart leg of his own. With the way Whitlock had thrown all day
that was enough and he produced another 13-darter to clinch the
title.
Pacific Masters Final Averages: Simon Whitlock 33.701 Anthony
Fleet 29.77
Queensland’s
Cathy Shaw had a great day winning her first Pacific Masters
title. She had some big matches to win during the day to win the
title including a second round win of England’s Margaret Sutton.
In the final she had to defeated 2007 Australian Singles
Champion Corrine Hammond and in the quarter finals a previous
Champion in Joyce Mackie.
The Pacific
Masters Final was a fairly even contest with both players in
pretty good form after some powerful wins in their semi finals.
Shaw was away first and won the first leg. Both players were
hitting the big scores and the legs went with the darts until
the fifth leg. Hammond who lives in Sydney won this leg in 16
darts to take a 3 – 2 lead and was in a strong position only
requiring to hold her throw for her to take the final. Shaw had
other ideas immediately inflicted a break back to see the final
go into a tie breaking leg. Hammond was away first but Shaw was
only just throwing the bigger scores to reach a shot at the
winning double first. With two darts she finished from 52 to win
the title.
Final Averages: Cathy Shaw 23.892 Corrine Hammond 22.69
