HOUSTON OPEN 2008
Carolyn Mars won the Women's Singles at the Houston
Open which was played at the weekend. The Men's Singles event
went to Brian Blake.

England's Lisa
Ashton set an amazing record at the 2008 British Pentathlon,
when she won every discipline and was crowned Women’s Champion
on her Pentathlon debut.
The England International triumphed with 335
points with
England Captain
Trina Gulliver in runner-up spot on 298 points. Karen
Lawman took the third spot with 283 points and Apylee Jones in
fourth with 270 points
The 2008 Men’s Pentathlon Champion is
England Captain
Martin Adams on 437 points, closely followed by International
team-mate John Walton on 421 points. Finland's Marko
Kantele also passed the 400 mark with 404 points. Paul Dawkins
was fourth with 374 points.

SHAUN GREATBATCH
-
UPDATE.
Firstly, Shaun, Barbara, Sandra and all the family, would
sincerely like to express thanks, to everyone who has sent
messages, of best wishes, and support , through what has been a
difficult two weeks.
Shaun, has been diagnosed with Myeloma, which is cancer in the
bone marrow. He is now at home, and is expecting his
chemotherapy treatment, to start this week.
This treatment is tablet form, and will be for a duration of
about 8 months. After this phase is completed, he will be
admitted to Addenbrookes
Hospital, for a Stem Cell Transplant. Shaun will than be in
hospital for about 4 weeks.
Once the full treatment is completed, the Myeloma should be in
full remission.

The draw for the 2008 Europe Cup Youth has been
conducted, and can be viewed on the link below. The Boys
Singles and Pairs are both "knockout" events and the
complete draw is shown. The Boys Team Event, the Girls
Singles and the Girls Pairs are all Round Robin events
where the draw for the groups are shown but not the
individual matches in each group.

BDO INTERNATIONAL OPEN 2008
England's Davy Richardson took his greatest ever
triumph when winning the BDO British International yesterday He
defeated Scotland's Ross Montgomery by 4 sets to 1. Francis
Hoenselaar shrugged off her failure to make the Dutch Europe Cup
team with a 3-2 victory over Patsy Fletcher. In the Youth final
Santino Broer from the Netherlands defeated Mitch Davies 3-0. |

DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER
We are sorry to announce that Shaun Greatbatch has been
diagnosed with cancer. Shaun is in hospital at the moment
undergoing tests. No further details are known at this time.
We wish Shaun a speedy recovery and expect to see him back on
the oche soon. |

The Austrian National Championship was
played last weekend 7.-8. of June. A great surprise was 13 year
old Christopher Mosser ( Carintia) winning the title in the
boy’s single event.
That the Austrian Nr. 1 Barbara Kuntner (Vienna) won the Women's
event was not quite so unexpected.

Robbie Green (Clwyd) came back from a set down against Robert
Hughes (Pembrokeshire) to claim the Men's title, while in the
all Gwent Women's final Natalie Tucker also hit back from two
legs down for her 3 - 2 victory over Jan Robbins.

DOUBLE DUTCH AT THE SWISS OPEN

Both Men's and
Women's singles titles went to the Netherlands at the 2008 Swiss
Open which was played today. Joey ten Berge got the better of
England's Dave Prins with a narrow 3 sets to 2 victory. Martin
Atkins (ENG) and Edwin Max (NL) shared third place.
Carla Molema edged out Irina Armstrong in
the Women's Final by 2 sets to 1 with Scotland taking both the
third positions through Joyce Elder and Louise Hepburn.

GREEK OPEN 2008
The first
Greek Open
was
successfully arranged
in the beautiful Athens
suburb of Nea
Makri last weekend.
The event
attracted players from Sweden,
Netherlands,
Rumania,
Latvia and Cyprus in
addition to
the best of the Greek players.
The Men's Singles was won by local star John
Michael who had a 5-1 win over Andreas Laos from Cyprus. Third places
went to Ron Meulenkamp (NL) and Cristian Popa Vlad from Rumania. The
women's title went to Areti Trevilla of Greece who Beat Ann Rose from
Cyprus by 5 legs to nil. Third places were shared by Evi Nakka and Giota
Sfakioti both from Greece.

HOSTS WALES SELECT THEIR EUROPE CUP YOUTH TEAM
2008 WDF Europe Cup Youth hosts Wales have selected their team for the
event which will be staged at the Swansea University Campus between 16th
and 19th July.
Young veteran Jamie Lewis with four Europe Cup Youth events under his
belt, will be joined by Shane Parry, and newcomers Ross Robson and Jake
Yates to lead the boys team challenge, while the selectors have recalled
the Europe Cup 2006 Girls Singles champion Kimberley Lewis to team-up
with Rachael Williams in the girls tournament.
