WALES SELECT THEIR EUROPE CUP TEAM FOR DENMARK

Gareth Holt is the new face in the Wales team selected for the WDF Europe Cup, to be held in Copenhagen between 27th and 30th of August 2008. Wales Team Managers have selected Gareth who plays his County darts for Montgomery and Radnor after his successful debut last February in the Wales Nations Cup winning team. The 31 year-old from Newtown will be joined in the four man team by Glamorgan’s Wayne Warren, BDO World Champion Mark Webster and team captain Martin Phillips who will be playing in his ninth Europe Cup event.

Current WDF World Cup Singles Champion Jan Robbins and last years’ losing finalist Julie Gore will be the duo representing Wales in the Women’s event.

The 2008 Nordic Cup will be played in the Hotel Tallukka, Vääksy, Finland between 29.5. and 1.6. Eight countries have entered this years event, two of them will take part in the Men's event only.

IRANIAN DARTS FEDERATION PROMOTES DARTS FOR THE HANDICAPPED

 

Iran, one of the WDF's newest members, is making great strides in the promotion of darts for the handicapped.  The Iranian Federation recently organised an event in Tehran comprising several classes for individual  players and a team event. The event was attended by players and teams from 16 different provinces within Iran.

Scottish players claimed three of the top four positions in this year's German Open Singles which was played in Bochum today. Gary Anderson took the title with a 3-0 straight sets win over World Master Robert Thornton. The losing semi-finalists were World Nr. 1 Mark Webster and Scottish Captain Mike Veitch.

 

It was the Netherlands who provided three of the four semi-finalists in the women's event. However it was Welsh Nr. 1 Julie Gore who proved to be the strongest with a 2-0 sets win over Rilana Erades. Francisca Hoenselaar and Carla Molema shared the third spot.

BULLS GERMAN OPEN 2008

 

The draw of the 20. BULL'S German Open is now online.

 

You will find the times for the first matches on the homepage of the BULL'S German Open using following link:  www.bulls-germanopen.de.

 

Players from 14 nations will compete in the 20. BULL'S German Open and with 1076 entries in the Men's Singles and 243 in the Women's Singles the German Open is still one of the biggest tournaments in the world.

 

On Sunday 117 Boys and 27 Girls will toe the oche for the Youth Singles events. We will have 359 Men's and 93 Women's Pairs challenging for the pairs titles.

 

For Friday's warm-up competition there are a few places still available for those who missed the closing date. Players who have not already done so can register for the Warm-Up event between 19.00 and 19.30. Registration will close as soon as the available places are taken.

ROSS AND TRINA WIN ENGLAND OPEN 2008


Ross Montgomery took the England Open Singles crown with a 3-2 win over fellow Scot Gary Anderson. Trina Gulliver was pushed all the way by Russia's Irina Armstrong but held on for a narrow 3-2 victory.

A new and exciting British Darts Organisation ‘International Grand Prix’ comprising five established tournaments is to be televised live on Setanta Sports from May to September 2008.

 

The five featured tournaments will be:

  • THE BDO INTERNATIONAL OPEN: Pontin’s, Brean Sands - JUNE
  • THE BDO GOLD CUP: Lakeside Country Club – JULY
  • THE BDO BRITISH CLASSIC: Kettering Leisure Village – JULY
  • THE BDO BRITISH OPEN: The Spa, Bridlington – SEPTEMBER

 

The BDO ‘International Grand Prix’ series marks a darts debut for Setanta Sports, which offers an extensive sports package that includes the recently launched 24 hour Setanta Sports News.

 

Olly Croft, Managing Director of BDO Enterprises, says:

 

“This latest innovation for BDO televised darts, is a clear indication that in its 35th Anniversary Year the BDO continues to move forward and look after the future of our sport.

2008 WINMAU WORLD MASTERS WORLD FINALS

 

THE BRITISH DARTS ORGANISATION is delighted to announce that the World Finals of the 2008 Winmau World Masters will return to The Spa, Bridlington from Friday December 5th to Sunday, December 7th.

 

The Stage Finals of the Men’s World Masters will be screened live on BBC TV on Saturday, December 6th and Sunday, December 7th

 

Following a multi-million pound redevelopment, The Spa is the perfect host venue for the 35th World Masters to celebrate both the 35th Anniversary of the oldest established major tournament in World darts, and the 35th Anniversary of the British Darts Organisation.
